Our backyard security camera captured more than motion events β it revealed three distinct characters. Months of nightly footage, processed through a custom computer vision pipeline, uncovered who was visiting, when, and how they behaved. Each possum turned out to have a personality as individual as a fingerprint.

The Busy Mum
Navi is the busiest possum on the fence. She arrives every night already in a hurry, running from one side to the other like she just remembered five more things on her to-do list.
North fence check. South fence check. Where is Joey? Why is Joey there?!
She moves so fast it sometimes looks like she's worried the night will end before she finishes everything. Because, as every busy woman knows, there is always something else to do β check the house, tidy things up, make sure everything is in order, and somehow still keep an eye on everyone.
Unlike Link, who happily stops for carrots, Navi usually runs past them like: "No time for snacks! Too many things to do!"
Most nights she's just a tiny grey blur rushing along the fence, trying to make sure everything is exactly how it should be. πΎ

The north fence at midnight β still and quiet, exactly how I like it
When Joey follows my route without being told
When everything is exactly where it should be
A quiet fence with no unexpected surprises
When Link eats everything before I get there
Rain during patrol β I go anyway, but I don't enjoy it
The orange tabby from next door
When Joey wanders off before I can see where he's gone
When Link is doing absolutely nothing... but still eating more than everyone else
A few moments from Navi's nights that the cameras managed to catch.
The Big Tabby walked along the fence that night.
Slow. Confident. Looking around like it owned the place.
I don't like that.
Especially when Joey might be nearby.
The fence is supposed to be safe. That cat didn't belong there.
A typical evening for Navi β illustrative, not a data extract.

20:30
North fence first. Always. Quick check, quick scan. No time to linger - the night is short and there are many things to do.
21:00
Patrol the fence. Check the corners. Make sure nothing moved where it shouldn't. A quick tidy here, a quick fix there. Somewhere in all this... maybe a carrot.

22:30
A bit of cleaning, a bit of organising. Things don't stay in order by themselves. Someone has to keep the fence respectable.

02:30
Joey is exploring. Link is... sitting. Eating. Again. I supervise the young one and remind the other one that helping is also an option.

05:00
Quick patrol again. Check the corners again. How is it already this late? Also: Link is still eating.
06:00
One more look around the fence before morning. Everything seems in order. Good. Now maybe - finally - a moment to sit.
